Henry Webster is a violinist, teacher, composer and performer based in London, UK. His solo repertoire draws on influences as diverse as folk fiddle music, classical minimalism, musique concrète and EDM. Webster graduated from Trinity Laban in 201…

Award-winning violinist and composer Henry Webster works as musician/co-composer with the internationally critically-acclaimed Theatre Re. The company’s latest work "Bluebelle" - in which Henry performs on violin, mandolin, whistle and electronics - premiered at Shoreditch Town Hall and The Lowry in 2022 to sellout audiences, receiving critical acclaim, including four and five-star reviews.

In 2019-2020, Henry spent 4 months touring Germany with theatre show ‘Berlin Berlin’, including performing on the Helena Fischer Show, to an arena of 20,000 and a 20 million TV audience. He continues to tour UK, Korea, China, Hong Kong and Europe with Theatre Re’s “The Nature of Forgetting” and has performed around the UK extensively with numerous artists. He is a regular Dep in the West End on “Choir of Man”. Previous collaborations include the City of London Sinfonia, London Philharmonic Orchestra and Tandem, with whom he supported Goldfrapp.

Henry has long been involved in taking music to unusual settings - he was artist-in-residence at Great Ormond Street Hospital from 2019-2023 and has been involved performing and mentoring musicians in care settings with Live Music Now since 2014. Through this work he met guitarist Elliott Morris and they formed “Kyntra” a duo performing folk-inspired original music on guitar and violin. Kyntra recently received generous funding from Help Musicians UK to record and release their album at Castle Sound in Edingburgh with Mattie Foulds.

Henry is a busy session musician - arranging and recording strings (Violin and Viola) and fiddle from his home studio in South East London for increasing numbers of pop, jazz and indie clients.

Outside of music, Henry has a postgraduate diploma in Psychological Science at the University of Glasgow, is an aspiring CrossFit bro, amateur film-maker and a keen but mediocre chess player. He is suspicious of anyone who gets to the end of his bio, somewhat uncomfortable writing about himself in the 3rd person, and believes one should be suspicious if a musician’s website is too up-to-date... He also hopes that you detect the dry humour in the final paragraph.

New Hospital Residency with Live Music Now

19th January 2022

As part of my work with Live Music Now, I am really happy to be beginning a residency performing on the David Ferrier ward at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. It’s so fantastic to be physically delivering music in a hospital again for the first time since 2020. This is just around the corner from my previous home at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital!

Writing a new show with Theatre Re… during a UK lockdown…

5th December 2020

I have just been very privileged to have spent the last 2 weeks continuing to co-devise the music for a new Theatre Re show, working closely with composer Alex Judd. I am so thankful to everyone behind the scenes who managed to make this happen during a UK national lockdown. This project challenges the musical, philosophical and psychological areas of my mind and I can’t wait to continue working on it in 2021!.

New project as part of Great Ormond Street Hospital Residency

24th June 2020

As I am no longer able to safely visit GOSH to deliver my usual music performances, I have started a project creating music using sounds recorded at the hospital. As a demonstration of the possibilities, I wrote this piece using sounds I recorded on my phone using some books, a lamp, a window and the sound of traffic passing my open window.

Listen to the pilot piece for this project in the “commission/ solo works” section at the bottom of this page.

Covid-19: Violin Lessons Available Online

March 16th 20:43

Everyone is aware of the current global outbreak of the corona virus, and although the government has not yet closed schools, I feel it is my moral responsibility to do what I can to minimise close contact with others in a reasonable way, as we have indeed now been asked to. I therefore am offering online tuition to all of my current students online. Please click the link below for more information regarding organising this.

Solo Comission and Performance by Lululemon x Roksanda

I was recently comissioned by Lululemon to compose and perform a soundscore at the launch of their new range by Roksanda Ilincic, one of the most recognisable fashion personalities in London. The world launch event was held in October at Lululemon’s flagship store on Regent Street, London and featured contemporary dancers as well as some very tasty canapés.

I was very happy to be invited to debut my new solo music for violin and electronics on the Woodland Stage at this year’s Tandem Festival. I also performed an improvised set as part of “Thinking 3D” at Oxford University (pictured right)
